EDM 714 Financial Management in Education -3 Credit Units
Purpose
The objectives of this course are to equip current and aspiring educational leaders with the necessary skills, knowledge, and comprehension to effectively manage finances in educational institutions. Students will develop a strong understanding of financial principles in education, learn how to utilize data for decision-making and acquire the ability to secure funding for student success.
Expected Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course,
- Students will have acquired knowledge of the basics of financial management, government revenue sources and spending concerns, public sector revenue and expenditure structure, policy considerations related to public finance, fiscal and monetary policies.
- Apply acquired skills in budget planning, execution, and administration.
Course content:
An exploration of financial practices in educational settings, this course covers budget preparation, financial reporting, and resource allocation. Students will learn to analyze financial statements and understand funding sources, including state, federal, and private funding.
Mode of delivery
Lecture, group discussions, class presentation, reflection exercises and library research.
