EDM 550 Curriculum Development and Assessment – 3 Units
This course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of curriculum development principles to students and equip them with the necessary skills to create innovative and effective curricula. By integrating theoretical frameworks, practical applications, and real-world examples, students will gain expertise in designing engaging and equitable learning experiences for all students. They will also develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to become competent curriculum developers and leaders in educational innovation, ensuring that all students have access to high-quality and stimulating learning opportunities.
Expected Learning Outcomes:
The course’s expected outcomes include the ability to analyze current curriculum frameworks, standards, and assessments for strengths, weaknesses, and areas of improvement; a deep understanding of curriculum design principles, including key theories such as Tyler’s Rationale and Backward Design; and the capacity to apply these principles in diverse educational contexts to create engaging and effective learning experiences that cater to diverse student needs and interests.
Course content:
Students will learn about the processes involved in curriculum development and assessment practices. This course focuses on aligning curriculum with standards, creating effective assessments, and utilizing data to inform instructional decisions. The course covers introduction to curriculum development, curriculum theories and models, needs assessment analysis, curriculum design and development, curriculum implementation and evaluation, technology integration in curriculum, and action planning and implementation.
