EDM 723Legal Issues in Education                                                                   3 Unit

Purpose:

This course seeks to educate students on the education laws of Nigeria while comparing them with other countries, focusing on the rights of children to receive education and the legal considerations related to educating both children and adults in educational environments.

Expected Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, students will have

  1. The skills to analyze and implement education law in organizational settings.
  2. The ability to interpret and apply educational policies and laws in light of current circumstances.
  3. Act ethically and professionally within legal boundaries while teaching students without being liable.

Course Content:

This course explores the legal framework governing education. Students will examine student rights, special education laws, and employment law issues. The course will also address legal liabilities faced by educational leaders.

Mode of delivery

Lecture, group discussions, class presentation, reflection exercises and library research.

Instructional Materials

Online tools such as Zoom, Google class and voice recording.

Continuous Assessment Tests     – 30%

End of Semester Examination     – 70%
