Course Purpose:

The purpose of ELIN 811: Leadership Theories and Practices is to equip master’s students with a comprehensive understanding of both classical and contemporary leadership theories. This course aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to analyze, evaluate, and apply various leadership frameworks in diverse organizational contexts. Through a combination of theoretical exploration, practical application, and critical reflection, students will develop the capability to lead effectively and ethically, fostering innovation, collaboration, and sustainable success within their organizations and communities.

Course Expected Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, the students are expected to:

  1. Analyze and critically evaluate classical and contemporary leadership theories, identifying their strengths, weaknesses, and applicability to various organizational contexts.

Course Content:

The course will include:

  • Classical leadership theories such as Trait Theory, Behavioral Theory, and Contingency Theory. Understand their historical context and foundational principles.
  • Modern leadership frameworks like Transformational Leadership, Servant Leadership, and Authentic Leadership. Analyze their relevance and application in today’s organizational environments.
  • Relationship between leadership and organizational culture. Discuss how leaders can shape, influence, and transform organizational culture to drive performance and innovation.
  • Importance of ethical leadership and social responsibility. Discuss case studies and real-world examples of ethical dilemmas and how leaders can navigate them.
  • Developing practical leadership skills such as communication, conflict resolution, decision-making, and strategic thinking. Engage in hands-on activities and simulations to apply these skills in various scenarios.
